November 17, 2016 - 11:37am

By: OfficeTeam

Yardley MP Jess Phillips backs the Guide Dogs campaign to prevent taxis and private hire vehicles from refusing to carry guide dogs.

Under the Equality Act (2010), the only time a driver can refuse to carry a guide dog is when they have a medical exemption certificate.

Disappointingly despite being illegal, taxi and private hire vehicle drivers frequently discriminate against disabled people. For example, 3 in 4 assistance dog owners have been refused access because of their dog.

Unfortunately Age UK has estimated that £1.95 billion has been lost from social care budgets over the past 10 years due to central Government cuts.
