JESS MEETS ALFIE DINGLEY AND HIS FAMILY IN PARLIAMENT

Yardley MP Jess Phillips met with Alfie Dingley and his family to offer her support to the End Our Pain campaign.
 
Alfie suffers from a rare form of epilepsy and suffers upwards of 150 seizures a month. His family are campaigning to have to have access to medical cannabis after treatment in Holland dramatically reduced Alfie’s seizures to just one a month.
 
Alfie’s family are urging the Home Sectary to immediately grant a license so they can have access to the medication he needs, and Jess has signed a letter in support of this.
 

JESS SUPPORTS UNIVERSAL CREDIT BILL

Yardley MP Jess Phillips attended an event to show her support for the upcoming Universal Credit Bill.
 
Jess supports the Universal Credit Bill’s aim to make split payments the ‘default’ for Universal Credit claims due to concerns that Universal Credit is likely to exacerbate financial abuse – as the monthly payment, made in arrears, will be paid to one person in the household.

Yardley MP Jess Phillips, alongisde Lynne Baird, organised a meeting with the Police and Crime Commissioner to discuss tackling knife crime in Birmingham.
 
Sadly last year Lynne Baird’s son, Dan Baird, was attacked outside Digbeth’s Forge Tavern pub and taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds. He unfortunately died from his injuries.
 
Dan’s murder was part of a number of knife attacks that claimed 11 lives in just seven weeks.
 

JESS CONTINUES HER SUPPORT FOR THE HIGHLY SKILLED MIGRANT CAMPAIGN

Yardley MP Jess Phillips once again showed her support for her constituent Inam's campaign to get more support for skilled migrants living in the UK.
 
Since January, Inam's campaign has received significant support from families across the UK and from other MPs.
 
The specific focuses of today's peaceful protest was against Home Office injustice, inhumane delays and the disproportionate use of Immigration Rule 322 (5) on Indefinite Leave to Remain applications.

During their visit, St Bernadette's had a tour of Parliament and had to design their own campaigns around an issue that they wanted to change.

Yardley MP Jess Phillips is attending a number of meetings and events in Parliament today to celebrate 100 years since some women got the vote.
 
February 6th marks 100 years since the Representation of the People Act granted the vote to women over the age of 30 who met a property qualification. The same Act also gave the vote to all men over the age of 21.
