Yardley MP Jess Phillips won the Newcomer People's Choice Award, at the MP of the Year Awards hosted by the Patchwork Foundation.
The Patchwork Foundation is a non-profit organisation that helps to engage under-represented, deprived and minority communities within British society through exposure and engagement into the political environment.
John Bercow MP, the Speaker of the House of Commons and Patron of the Patchwork Foundation, announced the winners of the MP of the Year Awards 2017 for those MPs who have represented and work well with underrepresented, deprived and minority communities across the country.
Jess Phillips MP said:
"It is an honour to win this award. Being an MP is a privilege, and getting to use your voice to amplify the voices of other people is a gift. To be thanked and recognised for doing this is the cherry on the top."
"Politics is for everyone, and I am determined to make sure that whoever you are, wherever you come from, if you want to take part to change things you can.”
