Yardley MP Jess Phillips said:
"Already in 2016 at least 46 women have been murdered. This number would be much higher if not for specialist refuges around the UK. I am standing to beg the Prime Minister to exempt refuges from the changes to housing benefit beyond 2017 which will certainly close services. I don’t want to hear the stock answer about the £40 million over next 4 years, he knows and I know that won’t stop refuges shutting. Will he do it do it, will he chose to save lives, please."
She also spoke in a Westminster Hall debate earlier in the day urging the Government to take action on this issue.
